The Dreaded Macau Day Trip (Part 2)

Hangry = Hungry + Angry

Sitting at the bottom of the Ruins of St. Paul, the hot Macau sun started to beat down on the tour group. Agnes gave us another 45 minutes to take pictures. And if we got lost, we were sure to remember “her name was Agnes and this is her phone number” written on our buttons. It was sad to say two people actually did get lost at this point. Don’t worry though, Ryan and Teryn eventually found us. Part of it was the tour guide’s fault and the other was the groups’. However, we would have been thinking clearly if our blood sugars weren’t so low.

As the clock hit 12:45 PM, the group weaved in and out of the macaroon vendors that lined the street. After getting to the end of the shops, we took a 30-minute break. The nice little tour group suddenly turned into a hangry mob. People wanted to go to a restaurant or to a casino or a combination of both. I think at this point, Agnes finally got the hint. She took the group on a 15-minute walk to the bus minus two of our friends. By now, it’s 1:30 PM. We have not eaten anything for six and a half hours. The group headed to the 360o Café restaurant in Macau Tower. We arrived at 2:15 PM for our 2:20 reservation. The hangry-ness was finally over. However, the damage had been done.

The Tour Continues….

I must have eaten enough food for a small village at Macau Tower. This restaurant was amazing. It’s sixty floors up and rotates while you eat. You have a 360-degree view of Macau. The food is amazing. However, I would have ate anything at this point, even something from the Wangfujing Food Street. It is buffet style, so you pick what you want. You just need to remember where you are sitting. Your table tends to rotate away from you. On top of that, you get entertainment from watching the bungee jumpers directly above you. Sadly, one of my wedding vows prevented myself from jumping. I really should have read the fine print. After eating our fill, we went back down to the bus and really put a damper in Agnes’s day.

Before heading to the next destination on the tour, the group split into thirds. One third stayed on the bus. A second third went to the casinos. And the last third, they went wee wee wee all the way home. Except the tears were out of joy for ending their nightmare in Macau. For the people who stayed on the bus, we were promised to see the real Macau now. The next destination we visited consisted of A-Ma Temple and Koi Kei Bakery. Apparently, you and your wife will become pregnant if you walk into the temple. I would say that is a good spot for a bakery. Try to name one pregnant lady that doesn’t like baked goods. You cannot do it! I was a little skeptical at first about the temple, but my friends Raul and Christy are now expecting. A little forewarning before you go visit.

Goodbye Macau

Agnes was trying her best to make up for a disaster of a day. She told us how the name “Macau” came to be, read our palms, and begged us to give her a good review. The last one is a secret. We don’t want to get her fired now. After the temple, she finally took us to a casino for a little gambling. With the minimum bets at $20 for all the tables, there wasn’t much gambling to be done for someone like me. My Wife and I found a great little pub with the other soon to be parents. To say the alcohol helped to ease the tension would be an understatement.

At this point, it is about 5:15 PM. What would be better now than to eat a full-fledged dinner. We were taken to a traditional Macau restaurant because of how hangry we were. Apparently, three hours between large meals is a must. Those left in the tour group barely put a dent in the food. It was also meant to feed the entire tour group. After dinner, we stopped by some fountain light show that was a must see according to Agnes. I would say it is worth skipping. Then, the bus took the rest of us back to the harbor to board the boat for Hong Kong. We finally made it back to the hotel around 9 PM. Thus, ends the tail of a very dreaded day in Macau.
