Carry-On Luggage
There are many positive things about carry-on luggage and a few negatives ones too. In this article, we are going to look at all of those. This topic will pertain to the international travel rules. Happy Sherpa wants to make sure you get all of the information you need for your next flight. Before we get into the positive and negatives, here are a few of the rules you need to know. You can find the full list here.
First, you are allowed two carry-on items. One is for the bin above and the other goes underneath the seat in front of you. If you are like my wife, you only want to take one item because it’s easier to get on and off the plane. Second, do not try to bring any drinks through security. TSA will just stop you and throw it away. There are stores on the other side of the security check point. You can get everything you need there. And lastly, do not try to argue with a TSA agent from another country. Just nod and move on. Otherwise, they may decide your the right person for a cavity search, cough cough.
Carry-On Luggage Positives
I would say the biggest positive to carry-on luggage is with weight. There is absolutely not charge for how heavy your bag is. That means stuffing all of your heavy souvenirs into two bags both the size of a backpack. They might be a pain to carry, but you will be saved from that extra baggage fee. The next amazing thing about carry-ons is you have everything you need right next to you. You can pack snacks, entertainment, a neck pillow and whatever else you need. I don’t recommend buying additional snacks from the flight attendants. They are a waste of money. I mean, who gets full on a pack of peanuts with only 10 nuts in it? That’s right, no one does. And lastly, you can bring your valuable items with you. That means no leaving it to chance of expensive souvenirs breaking in your checked bags.
Carry-On Luggage Negatives
Here comes the dark side of having a carry-on. Due to the plane size, you may have to check the bag anyways. There are so many times people put all of their bags in the overhead bin. They are just selfish people who want to have more leg room. In addition to this, you may also have to store your bag on the other side of the plane. It creates an inconvenience when you try to disembark. Plus, you never know who is handling it. Flight attendants will squish your luggage to get the bin to close. Also, other passengers will annoy you with their poor carry-on etiquette. They get up to search for something in the bin. Then, they need to put away ten minutes later. Your inflight experience gets diminished. Ultimately, the positives will always outweigh the negatives. People need their stuff when they travel.
