The Importance of Backing Up Your Photos
Backing up your photos seems to be a mundane task. However, it won’t seem that way once all of your photos are gone. It will become a necessary part of your life. Backing up your photos is a simple and easy task. Today’s technology makes it very convenient for the everyday person. It’s not that we cannot create a backup, but we honestly do not make the time. This pro travel tip aims to prevent you from losing your memories. As you will see below, I learned my lesson the hard way. If I had only took a few minutes of my time, I could share so much more with the world.
Imagine you are on top of the world. Life is great. You know this because of all the photos stored on your camera roll. Then bam! Your library gets hit by a metaphorical bus in the form of a lost phone or computer virus or a bus literally runs over your device. The only good news here is that you have some very happy friends. The evidence from that one Vegas trip is now destroyed. Herpes isn’t the only thing that doesn’t stay in Vegas. Sadly, all of your happy times disappear into the digital ethos as well. The only survivors are the photos from your social media posts. Bottom line, make the time for backing up your photos.
How to Do It
There are several ways to create a backup for your photos. Nowadays, smart phones automatically sync to the cloud. That is iPhotos for Apple users and Google Photos for Android users. This should solve the problem for the majority of people. However, there’s really only one full proof way to backing up your photos. You need to save them to an external hard drive. Well, there are two ways if you’re like my mother. She buys a new SD card for her camera for every trip. Let’s face it though, we’re not all made of money. Now, the best advice I have heard about this process comes from a really smart guy named Von. Basically, you set your hard drive to sync on a day you have a lot of errands to run. By the time you get back home, all your photos and files are protected. Mission complete!
My Experience
As mentioned above, I made the mistake of not backing up my photos. I swear it was on my “To Do” list. However, that list is always at least ten pages long. It maybe should have been at the top though. It all happened when I lost my phone. To tell the truth, I planned on backing everything up a couple of days later. The external hard drive was laying on my desk too. Anyways, it all began on the night of my bachelor party. First, let me say there weren’t any incriminating photos on my phone to lose. And second, my phone was long gone before I was extremely intoxicated. I thought I should clear both points up for my wife!
On the way back to the rental house, I had been texting directions to one of my friends. Instead of putting the phone in my pocket, I had left it on my lap. The Lfyt driver went around a windy road, and my phone flew under the seat. Now, a sober person grabs their phone right away. However, a drunk person will wait to get it when the vehicle stops. Consequently, I left the phone in the car. A rainy night will force you to hurry and take cover. The car drove off with almost 2,000 photos never to be seen again. As punishment for myself, I will be taking the same exact trips again in order to recreate those memories. I think it fits the crime.
