Grenada: My All-Inclusive Honeymoon Adventure (Part 1)

La Source GrenadaThe Destination

Where is Grenada? How far away is it? Is it safe? How come you are going to Spain for your honeymoon? Do you even speak Spanish? Those pretty much sum up all of the questions my wife and I heard back when I called her my Fiancé. To set the record straight, Grenada is an island in the Caribbean. The Spice Island as it is known. That is not to be confused with Granada, a city in Spain. It’s possibly one of the safest places on the planet. There are fewer murders in a year than most major cities have in a week. Almost everyone speaks English or some form of it. On top of that, I found all of the locals to be extremely friendly and generous. I highly recommend this destination for honeymooners and divers.

The Journey to Grenada

If the flights to Grenada seemed to take all day, it’s because they did. There were three in total. Unfortunately, there are not many direct flights to other countries from central California. The number of flights is not important though. My new wife and I were more focused on what was to come. The both of us had been for 9 months. It all started when I booked the highest rated, adults only Sandals La Source Resort in Grenada. We couldn’t wait for all the drinks, food, sunsets, beaches and quality time. And yes, I try to keep my articles as PG as possible. Let’s face it, everybody loves going to adults only resort for the quality time. There are never any interruptions.

Everything went smoothly the whole way to the island. Our planes left on time. The airlines never lost our luggage. And, neither of us were completely miserable. Well, that last one is partly true. My wife had caught a nasty stomach flu a day or two before the wedding. All of her friends and family just thought she was nervous about marring me. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. Luckily, I stepped up and went into full-on hubby mode. I walked all over the terminal in Miami to buy soup. I am almost positive it is three miles long. After spending the latter half of the day at the resort and a good night’s rest, she finally woke up a new person. The honeymoon was now in full-swing.

Check-In

When you book a reservation with Sandals, your check-in process starts when you step outside of baggage claim. A driver picks you up curb side. We had a van sized taxi that fit us and three other couples. Even though it is a short drive from the airport to the resort, it is kind of nice getting to know everyone. As soon as the vehicle arrives at the resort, a concierge greets you. They walk you to the “Living” room and let you sit down while they bring you champagne. You fill out your check-in information on an iPad while you wait for a complimentary tour of the resort.

Now, I should mention that my wife and I splurged a little for this adventure of ours. We bought the room that came with butler service. It sounded a little strange to be waited on hand and foot, but now our lives feel empty without a butler. Shout out to Leanna, Kerry and Jamie for providing the most amazing service ever. Furthermore, you get your own private lounge for check-in as well. It makes you feel a little ritzy as well. In addition to more drinks, we were also shown our schedule for the week. Never did we have to make a reservation or worry about missing out on an excursion. Leanna the butler shut the door behind her, and our week-long honeymoon began.
